Actually you'd be surprised! You can do electronica on the cheap pretty well. Providing you already have a computer, the necessary bits of equipment aren't that expensive. In fact if you go down the software route you can get away with just using some software and a single simple hardware controller.

For example if you used AudioMulch and - say - a Korg Nanocontrol you could get away with spending no more than AU$340. if you used free software like Jeskola Buzz (it's a little more confusing and complicated but very powerful and completely free) at http://www.buzzmachines.com/ then that lowers the cost even further.

naturally of course once you get into it there's an infinite amount of money you could potentially spend (especially if you get into hardware) but therein lies the tricky balance of restraint. that being said, it always amazes me how much you can get out of very little.

we're hoping to post some videos of us playing some songs soon... watch this space.

Hahaha yay thanks for the video. All that gear is abit crazy though. At least in a band you spend like 1k on a guitar and everyone else spends 1k on their instrument but with e-music it looks like as if you gotta spend the full 5k on your part alone. :s

Really looking forward to listening to some of your church's stuff. Wish you guys had more samples online :P I head the 'We Belong To The Day' one. Which is how I found Soma.

Hey guys,

This is awesome! I am from a church too and was just browsing around. I don't know of many churches that do this so this is heaps cool! I guess most of us musos are so into playing live and using normal techy stuff that we rarely go deeper into computer based sounds live (well at least at my church anyway - time and money loL!). Am looking to get a MicroKorg soon so its neat to see how u guys are using it. I guess it also depends on the church and congregation too. It seems like you guys cater to a younger generation (correct me if I am wrong)... whereas we are quite mixed with a lot of adults who come from traditional backgrounds so I guess we are slowly getting more 'modern' with what we do... slowly lol! Thanks and keep up the nice work!

WOW I'm blown away by the coolness of all this! For a few years now I had been thinking about incorporating e-music in a normal band much the way david crowder does and you guys just take the bulls by the horns. I'm very excited to see where this will go. Looking forward to visiting your church sometime, and looking forward to attending your first 'lets-teach-the-average-joe-about-synths-and-things' workshop :)

Matt's Dad here(or as his mother and I prefer to call him-Matthew). Yes he has been playing a while! While Matthew may not remember it WE very clearly remember him as a 4 year old who would not join in at pre-school music classes until the end of the year. After that, well, he took off and you can now see and hear the result of all those music lessons, practice (with just a little parental encouragement from time to time), concerts, workshops, AMEB exams and the like. Matthew has been blessed with a wonderful musical gift which he is continuing to develop and share the joy of music ministry in this new Church.
